Biological agents are organisms or toxins that can kill or incapacitate people, livestock and crops. They can be dispersed by aerosols, animal carriers and through foods and water contamination.
Anthrax is an agent that only affects people who have had direct contact with it. It cannot be passed from person to person. Smallpox is an agent that is easy to spread. Do not go near people that have been exposed to smallpox. Local broadcasts may tell people to stay where they are or evacuate. Protective shots can also help guard against some biological agents.
