INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT
How is Hazardous Waste handled in Tulare County?
The Integrated Waste Management Program protects the health, safety, and well-being of the public, and preserves the quality of the environment by assuring the proper storage and disposal of solid, liquid, and medical wastes. The Tulare County Environmental Health Services Division is certified by the California Integrated Waste Management Board as the Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) for Tulare County. Program activities include inspections of landfills, transfer stations, materials recovery facilities, composting operations, septic haulers, and medical waste generators.
What else does the program do?
A consolidated program to regulate the handling and/or storage of hazardous materials and hazardous waste (including underground tanks, and the review of tiered permits for the generation of hazardous waste.) Also, reviews of all risk management plans submitted to Environmental Health under the CalARP requirement.
What about the Liquid Waste Program?
The Liquid Waste Program protects the health of the public and environment from the improper disposal of sewage from on-site sewage systems, and regulates septage haulers to assure proper disposal of septage.
