LAND USE PROGRAM
How does the Land Use Program promote effective land use?
The Land Use Program safeguards and promotes the health and well-being of the public through the application of environmental health principles of effective land use. It prevents public health hazards and mitigates environmental degradation that may result from improperly planned land developments.
Land Use staff serve as advisors to the Tulare County Planning Commission and serve as an informational resource to the Resource Management Agency and provide signatory approval to the Building Permit and the Land Use Development process.
What are the duties of the Land Use Program?
Land Use staff investigate and evaluate County building permit and land use applications involving subdivision and parcel maps, site plans, variances, special use permits, and environmental impact reports. Projects are evaluated for compliance with laws and regulations regarding sewage and solid waste disposal, domestic and public water supply, vector control, hazardous materials storage, retail food establishments, public swimming pools, and dairy siting and operation.
