COLLEGE IMMUNIZATIONS
What immunizations do I need for college?
The California State University system requires the following:
- Measles and Rubella Immunization Requirement: The California State University system requires that all new and readmitted students who were born after January 1,1957 provide proof of full immunization to measles and rubella prior the start of his/her first semester of classes at the university. Full immunization is two (2) doses of measles/rubella vaccine after 12 months of age and at least one (1) month apart. If you are unable to locate records of both doses, but are certain you received your first dose after 12 months of age, and you had your primary and secondary schooling inside the U.S. we will accept records of one measles/rubella immunization received after four (4) years of age and after 1980, and presume this represents your second dose.
- Hepatitis B Immunization Requirement: First-time enrollees at California State University institutions who are 18 or younger are also required to provide proof of full immunization against the Hepatitis B virus prior to first enrollment. Since appropriate Hepatitis B immunization consists of series of 3 shots over a minimum 4-6 month period (minimally at 0, 1 and 4 months, or 0, 2 and 4 months), prospective students should begin their immunization series as soon possible.
- Also check with the California Department of Health Services or the Centers for Disease Control for the lates information on immunization requirements.
Where can I get immunized?
Immunization may be obtained through your private health care provider, local clinics or Tulare County Health Care Centers. You should also check at your college's Student Health Center, they usually provide immunizations for a nominal fee.
Exemptions from the above immunization requirements may be granted for religious/personal belief or specific medical contraindication.
