PERINATAL CARE GUIDANCE (PCG)

Once I'm pregnant, how do I know what care is available for me and my baby?

It's very important to have early and continuous prenatal care. We provide an awareness of what care is available through community education and outreach. We can help you:

  • find a doctor
  • find funding for your medical needs
  • stop smoking, alcohol or drug abuse
  • with food, clothing, or assist in finding a place to stay
  • find counseling or just someone to talk to
  • learn how to take care of yourself and your baby

When should I first go see my doctor?

As soon as you miss your first period you should see a doctor because:

  • Women who see their doctor during the first three (3) months of pregnancy have healthier babies.
  • The doctor can tell you about foods to eat that may help prevent birth defects.
  • You get to know the people who will be caring for you and your baby.
  • You find out which medicines are safe during pregnancy and which are not.
  • You find out how much exercise is just right.
  • WIC is available after your first visit.
  • You get the important tests that tell you your baby is growing.

Who can I call to tell me more?

For more information on the PCG Program call 1-800-834-7121 or 559-685-4703.
