Relative  & Non-Related Extended Family Members Assessment and Investigations

Tulare County is committed to searching and placing children with relatives and family members. Relatives and related extended family members have preferential consideration for placement, as well as non-related extended family members (e.g. a child’s teacher, a neighbor, a child’s friends parents) if no suitable relatives are available when a child is placed outside of the parent’s home. Potential caretakers are screened through an on-site home evaluation.  

 

Adults who will have significant contact by residing or working in the home will have a criminal records check done, including Megan’s Law and Adam Walsh clearance, before a child can be placed in the home. In addition, the home must meet basic safety standards and provide adequate space to meet the child’s needs.
