Improving Food Environments and Food Systems  to ensure access to Healthy Foods for Tulare County Residents

Tulare County Healthy For Life Coalition (HFL) believes that a healthy community depends on everyone having equal access to healthy and affordable food.  HFL is bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders to assess the local food system and identify opportunities for collective action that will build a healthier Tulare County food system.

HFL's activities for 2010-2011 include:

  • Initiate a countywide school food inventory that will assess food environments (policies, practices, and resources) available in schools.
  • Coordinate a spring networking summit that will bring together parents, local farmers, schools and others to improve access to fresh, local and healthy foods for children, initiate a dialogue on best practices and model policies, and offer networking opportunities across a diverse body of stakeholders.
