Community Health Outreach and Education

Active LifestylesOur Mission

The Department of Public Health Community Health Outreach and Education activities include our Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health Division, Suicide Prevention Task Force activities, Tulare County Healthy for Life, Central California Obesity Prevention Program, and various other outreach resources that ensure the health and well-being of Tulare County residents.

Our combined activities focus on primary prevention, emphasizing strategies, alliances, and interventions that changes the societal context in which disease and injury occur (called the "ecological" approach). To be effective, this approach depends upon the active involvement of the community, the development of community based prevention, and the ability to advocate for policies which empower residents to be healthy through disease and injury prevention.

Family Bonding

Our approaches, theories, and practices are grounded in the core public health functions of prevention and equity, and attempt to build cooperative relationships with residents in the diagnosis of problems, assessment of strengths and resources, and the implementation of solutions.
