SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES (STDs)
What are STDs and how are they transmitted?
Diseases passed from one person to another through sexual contact are called sexually transmitted diseases (STD) or sexually transmitted infections (STI). These diseases are spread by vaginal, anal and oral sex. Some of the common STDs include HIV/AIDS, Chlamydia, Hepatitis B & C, herpes, genital warts, syphilis and gonorrhea. Having a STD can have an impact on your health now and in the future, affect your ability to have children, and in some cases can even be deadly.
