Perinatal Care Guidance (PCG)

What is the Perinatal Care Guidance (PCG) Program?

The PCG programs works with you to help you understand the importantance of early and continuous prenatal care. We provide an awareness of what care is available through community education and outreach. We can help you:

  • find a doctor
  • find funding for your medical needs
  • stop smoking, alcohol or drug abuse
  • with food, clothing, or assist in finding a place to stay
  • find counseling or just someone to talk to
  • to learn how to take care of yourself and your baby

Why should I see a doctor as soon as I miss my first period?

  • Women who see their doctor during the first three months of pregnancy have healthier babies.
  • The doctor can tell you about foods to eat that may help prevent birth defects.
  • Get to know the people who will be caring for you and your baby.
  • Find out which medicines are safe during pregnancy and which are not.
  • Find out how much exercise is just right.
  • WIC is available after your first visit.
  • Get the important tests that tell you your baby is growing.
